How do I track which Reddit post brought my signups?

The short answer
Give every link you post on Reddit its own tags: utm_source=reddit and a utm_campaign named after the post, like launch-post or r-saas-question. Record those tags with each visit and each signup at the moment it happens. Then count signups, and later paying customers, per campaign. Without tags, all of Reddit shows up as one source, or as direct traffic.
Why Reddit is hard to track
Reddit sends visits from its website, its apps and from links copied elsewhere. The website usually passes reddit.com as the referrer; the apps often pass nothing, so those visits look like direct traffic. And even when the referrer arrives, it only says “Reddit”, not which post or which community.
Tag every link
Build a link per post:
https://yoursite.com/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=r-saas-launch
utm_source=redditfor every Reddit link.utm_campaignfor the post: the community and the angle, lowercase with hyphens.- Keep a short list of the campaign names you’ve used.
Record the tag where it matters
A tag in your analytics is half the job. The other half is keeping it on the signup, because that’s what you’ll match to payments later:
- Read the UTM values on the first page the visitor lands on.
- Send them with the signup form (a hidden field, or your waitlist tool does it), and store them next to the email.
- Keep the first values you saw, not the last: the question is how this person found you.
Count the results
- Visits per campaign tell you which post was seen.
- Signups per campaign tell you which post convinced people.
- Paying customers per campaign tell you which post found people who value the product. This needs your payments matched to signups, by email or user id.
The ranking often changes between the three. A post can top the visits and bring no customers.
Common mistakes
- Using the same link in every post, so every post is
reddit. - Tagging internal links on your own site, which overwrites the real source.
- Only counting upvotes and comments. They measure the post’s reception, not what it did for you.
With Nordva Launch
The waitlist widget, the hosted page and the API record the referring site and UTM values on every signup, with no cookie; the analytics script does the same for every visit. The Insights sources table shows visits, signups and (with Stripe connected) paying customers per source. Grouping by UTM campaign needs the Builder plan; referring sites work on every plan.
Example data When Launch is the wrong tool
If you only post once, a tag is still worth it, but you don't need a tool: your analytics' referrer list may be enough.
